  31. Installation:
  32. ------------

  34.    To install the setup and utility programs, type a:\install. and select
  35.    "Utilities and Setup program" from the installation menu.
  36.  
  37.    The default path for the installation is C:\MGA\SETUP\.
  38.  
  39. Setup program (SETUP.EXE):
  40. -------------------------
  41.  
  42.    The SETUP utility program allows to you to "optimize" your
  43.    board/monitor configuration. It allows you select a monitor from
  44.    our list of supported monitors and to perform graphics testing to
  45.    validate your selection.
  46.  
  47.    Once you have finished, your selection will be saved in a file called
  48.    MGA.INF. This file is used by all the MGA drivers to determine monitor
  49.    timing information.
  50.  
  51. Monitor file (MGA.MON):
  52. ----------------------
  53.  
  54.    This file contains the monitor information required by the SETUP program.
  55.    It contains video timings for a variety of monitors and should cover most
  56.    monitors. It includes support for monitors such as Hitachi, IDEK, NEC,
  57.    Nanao, MAG, NOKIA, Phillips, Viewsonic, and other multi-scan monitors.

  59. UPDBIOS.BAT Utility:
  60. -------------------
  61.  
  62.    IF YOU HAVE JUST RECEIVED A NEW BOARD, IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO
  63.    RUN THIS UTILITY.
  64.  
  65.    This batch file is used to update the flash bios on your MGA
  66.    Millennium to the latest revision at the time of release.
  67.    It is necessary to run this utility only if you receive this
  68.    software as part of an upgrade package.
  69.  
  70.    Should you need to use this utility, follow the procedure below :
  71.    
  72.         1) power down your system
  73.         2) remove the MGA Millennium
  74.         3) locate the dip switches
  75.         4) set the bios protection switch to "BIOS UNPROTECTED"
  76.         5) install the MGA back in the system and power-up
  77.         6) go to the C:\MGA\SETUP directory and simply type "UPDBIOS"
  78.         7) once the utility has finished, power-down your system
  79.         8) remove your MGA and set the bios protection switch back
  80.            to the "BIOS PROTECTED" position
  81.         9) power-up your system and you are now ready to try your updated
  82.            bios
  83.        10) repeat the procedure if you have more than one MGA in your system
  84.    
  85.    NOTE : This program may not work properly if invoked from a Windows
  86.           DOS window (neither windowed or full-screen). It is recommended
  87.           that this program be run directly from DOS.

  90. VBESETUP.EXE and VBETSR.COM Utilities:
  91. -------------------------------------
  92.  
  93.    The VBETSR.COM/VBESETUP.EXE utilities allow the VESA VBE modes supported
  94.    by our video bios to use the same video parameters as used by our drivers.
  95.    This is a two step process. First, you must run VBETSR.COM by going to
  96.    \MGA\SETUP and typing VBETSR. Second, from within the same sub-directory,
  97.    you must run VBESETUP.EXE by simply typing VBESETUP. This program will
  98.    load the video parameter information to be used by VBETSR.COM. These
  99.    programs can be run from within your autoexec.bat by simply adding the
  100.    following lines :

  102.     C:\MGA\SETUP\VBETSR
  103.         C:\MGA\SETUP\VBESETUP
  104.  
  105.    NOTE that VBESETUP must be re-run every time you modify your monitor
  106.    configuration. In other words, every time you switch monitor or modify 
  107.    the video timings in any way.

  110. PCISPY.EXE Utility:
  111. ------------------
  112.  
  113.    PCISPY is intended for usage in PCI systems where we suspect problems
  114.    arising from the way MGA devices are being mapped. It replaces the PCIMAP
  115.    utility found on previous releases.
  116.    Usage of this utility is as follows and can be obtained by simply
  117.    going to C:\MGA\SETUP and typing PCISPY :
  118.        
  119.        usage : pcispy [-l]
  120.                       [-c]
  121.                       [-r DeviceNumber Offset]
  122.                       [-w DeviceNumber Offset Data]
  123.                       [-d DeviceNumber Start_Offset End_Offset]

  127.        [-c] automatic conflict resolution involving MGA
  128.        [-r] read byte from "Offset" (hexbyte) for "DeviceNumber"
  129.        [-w] write byte "Data" to "Offset" (hexbyte) for "DeviceNumber"
  130.        [-d] dump bytes from "Start_Offset" to "End_Offset" (hexbytes)
